I'm Coming Home

I'm not sure what I based this poem on, maybe the Civil War? I know that I never let anyone read these poems, though. The Internet was decades away..... Liberty Lane I'm coming home. They gave it a name with glory and love, A name no manwould ever strive above Forever proud it will stand for the dove. My Liberty Lane I'm coming home Forever I shall hear the marching of their shoes Thelane made way for the reds, whites and blues And word was on all lips, glad was the news. Know Liberty Lane I'm coming home. The battle was fought, blood was shed Men scattered to the hills asthey fled. My rifle I dropped, caring not ifI bled. Yes, Liberty Lane, I'm coming home. I shall always remember the crying groans The wind blowing heavy with painful moans As trampled they lay with mud, dirt and stones. Ah, Liberty Lane I'm coming home. I left my hometown, misery on my soul My heart was black, one deep, dark hole The world seemed a mess, an uncertain goal. Now, Liberty Lane I'm coming home. The town seems the same after all the years, The blood and battle and weary tears My memories are the same but not the fears. So, Liberty Lane, I'm coming home Johnny is coming home at last, He wants to be able to forget the past This Johnny is coming home at last.
