I Never Knew Your Name
We ventured in on passing just to share a puff, Also to say hi to mates back then our lives were rough, Some faces there I did not know, and mates I also knew, Of what, I could not say but each had had a few, My mate who's place it was, Was somewhat radical but cool, The walls were all painted black The staircase and the ceilings too, It resembled a ancient dungeon In a wasted state, The bottom of a building, Newton Gully, Location there was great . We sat round in a circle in a dim lit room, We lit the spliffs and passed them round We should've be humming soon, Then some one asked "what is that smell?" So profound! Then complained that the joint had not been rebound, A face amonst our group Proceeded to nudge his neighbouring mate, He did not move at all I swear, He had met a dreadful fate, What was a comfy smile had flipped into a frown, No longer at ease as he started to freeze This knowledge brought us down, Now a silent panic had put us in a state For a moment I remained astonished While others made a break. At 14 my first seen death was one of my greater shocks More so when a low life thug leaned down and stole his Doc's, In front of us a guy droped dead while grabbing a lazy high, If you were there you'd have felt the same, could you imagine our surprise? Not even one person hung around to see the hearse arrive But one mate for it was her place was left to face police and tell the lies, After one poor soul gave up the ghost and met his final demise. This is a day and a vision, ingrained into my head The joint was burning his fingers while infont of us he was dead. R.I.P.
