I Think I've Lost My Heart
There once lived a young man In a place far, far away Who set out in search of his heart One very fine day He came across an old woman All shriveled from the sun After some pleasantries he said, “I'm afraid my heart's on the run” “Ah” she said, “I've heard this before On a day much like this, long ago Now all I can say is just a little cliché But your heart may not like you, you know.” “Not like me, but why? I've never been mean Or treated it in a bad way like some” “Well then,” she said “if that's not the case Then I've no idea why your heart's on the run.” So the man continued on his way Just to bump into a little blackbird “My heart is missing” he told the little creature who replied; “That just can't be, I've never heard something quite so absurd” Next he came across a very fine girl To whome he said “I've lost my heart” “Oh, dear!” she exclaimed “How long have you been apart?” “Not too long, but it feels like forever I've lost the ability to laugh, to cry Now I'm searching for my heart” “Well, I haven't seen it” she said with a sigh Now the young man was beginning to lose hope As he continued down the road in search of the truth But then he met a little girl Still shining with the innocence of a youth “Excuse me” he said, scared to ask the help of someone so young “I was wondering if you've seen my heart, it's missing you see” “Well young sir, are you sure it wasn't stolen? You might have given away and never gotten it back.” replied the girl, cheekily “It happens quite often, that a heart disappears You'll have to find the person who you gave it to Perhaps she's kept it longer that you realised I'd find that person if I were you.” And so the little girl skipped off with a laugh And the young man continued his search with a purpose found He thought of his lost love Who'd left, homeward bound After many weeks of traveling And many tears cried He found his young love And in her heart his heart did hide So he got his heart back But kept a piece of hers And they walked together Through the coming years
