Irony in Writing
~For my friends It is a self-absorbed venture To write my own thoughts down Thinking them worthy enough And worth your time to read Like you don't think as well And so even before I begin I must apologize to you first Like most things in life This is an irony in itself Because I begin by begging Pity from the one who pays But it serves for showing How I can't escape the chain And yet to keep on writing In the future you will find Yourself thinking comparatively I've often done so my very self You explain things to yourself Making sense of them defensively Thinking yourself better now Being convincingly primitive What do the reasons matter now? Reciting your mistakes to yourself Is some entry-level work, my friend You call it a form of reflection But it shows you haven't learned yet You can't really convince yourself Of things which you already know And so this poem is as useless As it might be to blame yourself Assessing the progress you've made What dictates my words down here Is from another voice in my head I've simply decided to share it Saving you from the irony instead I did the effort out of duty I have nothing here to prove By the time you've read this The allotted time has passed Remember where you faltered Don't crucify yourself for it Explaining it is self-centered Be quiet in the knowledge You've gained to be a man It is two steps backwards Thinking of childish mistakes Accept the meaning of finality Forgo returning to the dirty soil To roll in what you've grown from
