Exxon Mobil posts record $45.2 billion profit Oil giant breaks record for full-year earnings despite quarterly slump HOUSTON - Exxon Mobil Corp. on Friday reported a profit of $45.2 billion for 2008, breaking its own record for a U.S. company, even as its fourth-quarter earnings fell 33 percent from a year ago.The previous record for annual profit was $40.6 billion, which the world's largest publicly traded oil company set in 2007. I wrote my reply, which is repeated below. I just had to comment on it, and also I was inspired to write this. "You know, as a people blessed with intelligence and insight, in regards to what is happening right now in these uncertain economic times, there is one thing you can always count on as being a constant and that is this: "When some people get poor, others get rich. The money never just goes away, it just changes hands. I want to know whose hands it is going in to. And if you don't want to know the answer to that question, then you have no business being a part of a democracy." When our grocery slip used to say100 instead of 225? * When it used to cost 20 bucks to fill itall the way up, And now it cost 75, Just tofill my truck. * We used to have healthcare yourco-pay bill was ten, and now it doesn't cover ANY Goddamn thing! * Back thenthe heating bill was 200 but only inwinter, Land sakes alive, it's 225, even in the summer! * The mortgage went up 200 bucks just from taxes alone! a pretty steep climb indeed, all on afixed rate loan. * Your take home check is less than it was three years before, and allyour raises frozen and no bonus anymore! * While politicians and the lobbyists erode the public's trust, they strip us of all dignity and leave us with disgust. * Either Democrats or Republicans, They've both been up for sale Just follow each one's lobby map straight to the money trail! * Which ones have the fortitude To stand up for what's right?
