Knocking on Heavens door
Lord I’m knocking on heavens door (Why won’t You open) Lord I’m knocking on heavens door (Take me now, my soul is broken) Lord You are my Lord and Savior But I don’t understand Your behavior I cry and beg to die But You seem so deaf to my plea, tell me why, tell me why I know You want me to endure But Lord I can’t take it any more. Lord I’m knocking on heavens door (Why won’t You open) Lord I’m knocking on heavens door (Take me now, my soul is broken) So tired, I have counted the cost, but I still feel so lost. Sitting on garbage, my pile of ashes As my flesh and spirit clashes. The sun is too bright I long for the end of this life, escaping this eternal night To open my eyes, and gaze upon You the eternal Light Then I hear a small still whisper; I know it’s Your voice You strengthen me, You calm all the noise You tell me to hold on To be brave and stand strong That You will never leave nor forsake me That I belong to You, nothing will take me You tell me not to retreat, Not to accept defeat But to stay and linger in the shadow of the cross, to sit at Your feet Until that day in heaven, face-to-face we meet.
