Land of the Purple Sun

Land of the Purple Sun I met a lady Space Cadet whose name was Venus Gunn She led me to a capsule where we enjoyed a night of fun We made love throughout night to a cosmic metal band Then it was all over, it was just another one night stand I saw her six weeks later, she was with a Galaxy Ranger She looked right through me, as though I was a stranger I gestured to the Ranger and he said ‘Look, I gotta run’ Leaving me with Venus, in the Land of the Purple Sun We walked amongst the monkey trees by a lake of green I kissed her on the lips and asked her where she’d been She said that she could not tell me, information classified But that she’d leave the next day for Jupiter’s dark side She invited me to spend the night as we had done before To the cosmic metal band, we both made love once more As the purple sun rose slowly over Starship Alpha One I bade farewell to Venus, in the Land of the Purple Sun I asked when she would return, she replied ‘who knows?’ But when one is a Space Cadet that’s how the story goes She put on her airtight helmet and waved a last goodbye Her eyes behind the Plexiglas were black holes in the sky Three years have passed since then, for Venus I so yearn I would gaze up at the night sky for Alpha One’s return I heard of the Jupiter mission, survivors numbered none Now we’ll never love again in the Land of the Purple Sun
