Leap of faith

Rose tinted glasses are an interesting thing. Our minds turning a blind eye, Indulging our naive sensibilities. As if, we understand that some happiness is temporary, And for it ignorance is essential. Then at some point we take off the glasses, The red flags can be seen for what they are, The warning signs you ignored. In an attempt to keep reality away, And live in your perfect fantasy. But what if the red flags are not too startling? What if you can be happy, Yet still free? After ingesting so much poison, It can be hard stomach sweet tea. When someone makes you smile, In pursuit of your happiness, And no ulterior motive... How do we trust that? In toxic partnerships Your counterpart is cruel, But at least they’re predictable. There will be no surprises. A prince charming on the other hand, Their love and kindness is the ultimate weapon. The pure genuineness of it all, Makes it all the more devastating if it’s taken away And harder to predict. But surely the spirit is strong enough To weather the storm? Bear the burdens, And revel in the joys? Sometimes the purest of loves Can be the hardest to accept. But also, the most important. They simply but terrifyingly, Require a leap of faith.

Hi! I'm an amateur at writing poetry and a huge fan of reading it! I'm grateful for tips on how to improve as it's a hobby of mine, and I'd love to improve my skills. I have plenty of ideas, but I struggle with formatting and pace.
