LESSON FROM THE WAX It on the table erect In the heart of the room And sends its gold yellow red beams To the corners of the rectangle Seconds passed Its longevity was shortened Then it sent its last beam And the room turned night. There hence wide went my thought Inspiration dawned on me We all have lives like the candles Short and brief The years allotted us And if we all like the candle live To while we yet breathe Give our gleams And make our prints On the earth’s face Tomorrow to come Will keep us alive.
