Let Me Hold You a Little Longer
Let me hold you a little longer The days, the years go by too fast And soon, before I know it All these moments will be past. Let me hold you a little longer The dishes in the sink can wait One day you’ll be grown up And it then will be too late. I know I won’t look back and wish I’d done more laundry and more chores I’ll wish I hugged you tighter And held you a little more. Let me hold you a little longer As in my arms you sweetly sleep All these tender, precious moments In my heart I’ll hold and keep. As I look down at your small face I try to store it in my mind A picture hung on my heart’s walls Wishing I could freeze the time. Let me hold you a little longer Soon I’ll clean and all the rest For now just let me hold you close Your little head upon my chest. In life each moment comes just once Never will these times return So let me hold you while I can One day for this my heart will yearn. So let’s just stay a little longer Rocking in this rocking chair Your dimpled hand around my thumb As I stroke your soft, brown hair. The sands of time will wait for none Soon I’ll walk through memory’s hall And when your little face I see Nostalgic tears will surely fall. And I’ll just wish the clock’s spade hands Could bring me back to previous shores So I could stand on olden sands And hold you just a little more.
