Love Ballad
LOVE BALLAD (to the tune of ‘Sweet Betsy from Pike’) I’ll sing you a song of a boy and a girl Who met on the third floor of a shopping mall Sweet Tina had six rings in her pretty ear While Brad wore some dreadlocks instead of his hair They loved not too wisely but they were still young Sweet Tina found out that you pay for your fun When Brad heard the news he said ‘I’m not the pa. I’m going to Jo’burg to be a pop star’ A Greyhound took Brad and his pack far away Sweet Tina she wept and she cried for a day She went to the mall to find something to wear To a rave where her friends would have all the right gear The rave house was raided and Tina was caught Her parents found out she was not the right sort She was dealing in drugs and her friends were all bad Soon a cell and a baby were all that she had Now Brad made his fortune in Joburg in time He married a rich girl who part-owned a mine They went to the SunCoast to holiday there With two little kids and a Spanish au pair Sweet Tina was out and much older by then She worked in the kitchen and hated all men When she saw her Brad with his family bright She swore that the man would not live out the night She stabbed him with vigour and with a chef’s knife He died on his spare ribs in front of his wife Sweet Tina was happy, the first time in years ‘My child has no father and neither have yours’ My song is now over and it is so sad The story of Tina and her lover Brad Young love with a baby can wither and die It comes to an end and you see so have I. Chorus: (to be sung as often as you like) Sing Tooraliy ooraliy ooraliy ay Tooraliy ooraliy ooraliy ay Tooraliy ooraliy ooraliy ay Tooraliy ooraliy ooraliy ay Spike
