Luck Of The Irish

·Mental Journey

A young man traveled one day To where the end of the rainbow lay, A patch of clover is what he found All you could see for miles around “I’ll find a shamrock to prove my worth And the luck will win me a new full purse” He began to search that clovered hill Though he’d journeyed far, he had the will Then a little man walked up beside About half his height, he did find He offered him food, and a warm bed, “It’s time for you to rest your head You must stay in my house tonight To find you dead would be a fright,” It was the same every day He would search until the old man came “Have some food and rest your head, I’d hate to come and find you dead,” He stood one day, looking old and grey, He said, “finally my luck has changed,” He shouted to the old man with a wave And ran straight home all the way, Two days later, back from town The old man asked him what he’d found “I can’t believe it was all gone, They moved away, everyone I thought the luck would change my life, I’d make my fortune, make her my wife, I can’t believe I was gone so long, How could it have gone so wrong,” The old man sighed in the evening light “You don’t need luck to change your life, Determination is the key, Now sit a while and listen to me You searched that field twelve hours a day Checked every leaf that came your way For twenty years, you had this task With no complaint or question asked, If you put that effort into your life You’d have made your fortune You’d have married your wife,” As the old man touched him on the arm He woke up on that hill, Next to a fire, wrapped and warm Then the old man stood and said, “For a while there, I thought you were dead He gave him a scone and cup of tea Then said, “Don’t you have somewhere to be?” He looked down as he rose to go And saw a shamrock by his toe As he picked it he saw he was still young “To remind me what I learned,” He said with a nod, The old man winked And he was gone, Ten years later the old man chatted With the young man, his wife, and a baby carriage.

Mental Journey

I am on a journey of the mind. Contemplating the universe on every scale, and doing a complete introspective exploration. I may never be a literary academic, but I share my humble thoughts in hope that they may inspire others.
