Measure of a Man
What is man? Born a naked babe - They say clothes do not maketh him Yet none would listen to a naked man or even a beggar in tatters: Only monetary means buys an audience whether the ear belongs to an ordinary man or to government. You try getting their attention without a cent, I dare you try in any land - The best you’ll get is a backhand. A man is not his body yet your body Decides your category and a category is a necessity To partake of society. Your body betrays your race and your sex and Did Rawls not show with his veil of ignorance Our ingrained prejudice? (never mind the narcissism!) And when the body is gone, what does the spirit weigh? If Tsvangarai dies for freedom or if he too should sacrifice his wife and child to ZANU PF will his blood ever make the sins committed there right? In fact, your spirit is all you have when the body is long nil, It is only the spirit in its insignificant fleshy vehicle That writes its name across an epoch – ask Marx and Michealangelo - nay, Ask Mandela for he still has his voice to say, A man without spirit is no more than ashes at birth or when he finally lays his head.
