MEMOIRS I was asked, therefore I shall tell the untold tale of my earthly hell and give the reasons I did rebel. Listen closely as I reveal, an array of pains that I did feel behold and hear it all the bizarre saga of an untimely fall. This convict has been to faraway places her eyes have seen a multitude of faces representing all lifestyles, all classes and all races. Her feet, so many streets they’ve walked, her mouth, by some kissed, to many more talked while by the police and others I have been stalked. So much this world to me did show, some of it in a Texan barrio bits and pieces from my life of crime a lot from the years that I’ve put in time but the most from my family, strict yet fine reflections from this life of mine. A variety of uniforms I have had to wear depending on which job I have had to bear on the fields of Parris Island I have drilled, discipline in me the Marine Corps instilled, but some of the discipline wore off I know, in the barrio where baubles and beads I had wore and by some it was whispered, “She’s a whore.” But wait, there’s more also ruffles and lace of childhood’s innocence- an entirely different circumstance and denim and leather of the outlaw, yes, I’ve tasted of life in the raw. To sum it all up life has filled my cup to the rim with goodness and evil righteousness and sin a life of love and of hate yet seldom do I question fate- not much can be told from how things seem you wonder, what exactly is my dream? The same as that of anyone but just as my “good” times had begun an abrupt end came to my fun and I became a fugitive on the run… Love, a family and a home all to have for my very own so little to ask to be fulfilled- though now I have nothing my hope is not stilled. * One of my earliest poems- written when I was 20 or 21.
