Memories of Rebekka

Lost among the thoughts of old, And circumstances placed on hold, Of tragedies I’ve never told, And Mem'ries of a heart turned cold. A stab of pain obscures the sight, As darkness shrouds the veil of light, The sadness harder still to fight, And fear of what awaits the night. Each night awaits me with a dream, The sadness and the anger team, A tortured pain within my scream, Emotions sewn up like a seam. A mem’ry of a distant pain, A swirling storm of mist and rain, A never ending sad refrain, And blood run cold through every vein. Each night the dream plays as before, A pain within I can’t ignore, The mem’ries now I see once more, A person I did once adore. The haunting sculpture of her face, And skin so warm and soft as lace, My dreams dwell on that time and place, A soul has gone without a trace. Her death is only mine to blame, For never was a heart to tame, And want and love are not the same, My sin was thinking love’s a game. What could I wonder when she died, But pass the blame I often tried, A lifetime’s grief it has supplied, Life’s happiness is still denied. These dwellings of my mind won’t fade, Through my own guilt they’re always made, Though never will my debt be paid, Till in the ground, my body’s laid. Her mem’ry burns within me as each night it plays again, For she took her life to show me there were penalties for sin. And the pain will always be there, to forget I’ve often tried, For there’s one thing that is certain, … that it’s my fault that she died.
