Memory
That's not how you remember it It is much bigger in memory But then when you see it again It simply is exactly what it is It is fellable and yet sacred Recalling even the present In a mindscape of awareness You use to dig down deeper Into a thing you call the past Where names and places blur Into a fond semblance you know Your heart ebbs at the faces That opened up their mouths With words that echo still In your remnants with silence That well up in wondering eyes You give it effort in thought For you know that life itself Is all that memory is worth As you travel upon its edges When you find yourself filled With trauma in recent years You dig down even deeper Because you are much more Than what you lost as of late You are walking once again In the happiness of childhood Free in the nearby creek Now ten thousand miles away With a forgotten household As time plays its silly game Having a home to go to still But you must open your eyes To where you are here and now For even though memory is great In the present is its craft Your work must continue onwards To lofty towers above the clouds For one day you must look down To recognize that you were there
