Midnight Rain

You are soft and quiet I love how I can only see Some of you While most of you Is falling in darkness It allows me to enjoy Listening to what I can not see Falling all around me In different kinds of ways Under street lamps Lining away in hushing tones Cascading in the wind's lungs I can almost feel my hand Gliding through the air Whispering in waves up And down unto the floor I love how you are quiet Though you lash out in pulses Elsewhere you take on a universal cadence Of things falling into things into things You are best when I close my eyes Since you light up the foliage in smell I breathe you in like I did before Once upon a time as we made love there To the night which we were safe from But now that I am here I may once more Open both my eyes to what is pouring within To be a stoic warrior with lonely shoulders no more Carrying the load alone makes for the breaking of bones So then to exhale midnight rain into the morning hour To watch self be alive in a time for no one to tell Having let it pass through you
