The sizzling, opened can of ginger ale. I found a room all to myself and sat in the dark at the deep end holding my breath. The whispers of the past I spent in the previous room replayed. Abruptly, as though I had no control over my thoughts, they ceased. Clarity touched me for a second until I heard the opened can of ginger ale sizzling.

Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art— Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night And watching, with eternal lids apart, Like nature's patient, sleepless Eremite, The moving waters at their priestlike task Of pure ablution round...
