Mother Nature's Giving Birth

MOTHER NATURE’S GIVING BIRTH When summer green leaves start to fall And flutter to the rain-clogged earth When icy fingers stroke my body Mother Nature’s giving birth To a new autumnal golden season When squirrels store their winter hoard When visitors abandon Brighton Sane old world once more restored We hesitate to don our woollens Savouring each ray of sun We think about the Christmas shopping Football season has begun But no-one sheds a tear for summer No-one will admit it’s gone And paths of red-gold dying leaves Are merely trails to stamp upon Beneath our feet we crunch and trample Crush each leaf with no regret Yet wonder at it's copper glory Marvelling at each sunset But no-one feels a twinge of sadness Mother Nature’s cloak of gold Hides the past, like all her wardrobe As each season does unfold So soon she will be donning diamonds Mist her face with snowy veil And in her gown of shimmering brilliance She will make our memories frail We’ll rub our fingers, light our fires And plan next summer’s holiday While Mother Nature’s giving birth We’ll simply wish our life away
