Mrs. Dolores

There stands Mrs. Dolores in her petticoat In her ruby slippers and up bouffant hair Her teeth are crooked and her face a little wry The skill to still hide the facts she’s cried And yet another man has walked through her life How do you take your tea, Mrs. Dolores? Sense there’s something you won’t tell me, Mrs. Dolores But I will listen with no prejudice Just pour your heart out, don’t feel any less We all have ours to deal with, Mrs. Dolores So what’s on your mind, mine Mrs. Dolores What’s bringing you down? I heard a quiver in your voice As you said your prayers last night Telling God, this time you need to make it right And here she comes, darling Mrs. Dolores Dressed up in sixties for the night And as she pours herself yet another drink I tentatively ask if she’s all right Could it be she’s drinking for diversion tonight? And as we say goodbye to Mrs. Dolores I see that seldom smile on her face But there’s an apprehension I can’t shake Well aware of the numbers of mistakes There’s still weighing her down And I hope if it ever comes, Mrs. Dolores You will put up a front Don’t be timid and don’t be tamed Feel proud and unashamed And then there’s hope for you, Mrs. Dolores
