My Darkness

I came upon a fog one night, a deep and lonesome cloud, The sky was dark and gave no light, to hear there was no sound. I walked away from the sheltered glow and stumbled into gray, I didn’t know the path but in the light I could not stay. I slowly walked into the dark, with each step carefully placed, The only sounds to fill my ears were my footsteps as I paced. About a hundred paces in I stopped for a look back, But now the night was closing in and all I saw was black. I ran back towards the light, from which I just had come before, Until I thought my lungs would burst… towards darkness, nothing more. I changed directions several times in search of my way out, But everywhere I ran was filled with darkness spread about. The darkness seemed to close in more, to squeeze my very soul, The fog grew even darker as the air turned black as coal, My breathing came more quickly as I tried to gasp for air, Thou still I stood, my lungs still burned and felt like they would tear. The gloomy cloud consumed me as it blackend every sense, As the insecurities and fear attacked my last defense, My legs began to tremble as if burdened by the weight, Of a life I’ve come to concentrate on vengence and on hate. I fell upon my knees as I surrendered to the darkness, As the cloud enveloped mind and soul with devastating starkness, Still one last breath I did possess and with it I would scream, But not a sound was echoed though this dark and morbid dream. No doctor’s touch or medicine could bring me back from here, I’m trapped among the thoughts of mine, of loneliness and fear. The choice to travel through the dark was only mine to take, But once the choice was made by me there’s only one escape. And now I sit in dark like pitch just wishing I would die, No turning back, just one way out, from the darkness that is I.
