My Greatness

Long’s been this infamous blue Came to me slow and vile Savoured in sweet rhyme and madrigal It weaved me with its words Drew me from my Paradise lost Like the ancient alchemists Made gold from my rust It seduced me with lust With the very thought of being pontificated Of making me exuberant Making me greater than life itself Long’s been these days of gloom Mending breaking and breaking mending hearts Feeling superior to it all Each word I drew Filled with passion and brilliance I never failed my idealism I never abandoned my ship Each battle I won Overwhelmed me with a sense of greatness A sense of immortality And in the end a sense of nothing If I grew from the trees In the park By the sea If I fell from His grace On my hands On my knees If my lips misled me My heart betrayed me My mind disowned me My hands forbid me My soul dispersed me If I was born from the waters Of the Earth Of the internal womb If I was a child A man A warrior I fight with sword I fight for greatness Not equality Not peace I am resilient Long’s been this infamous blue In glimpse those halcyon days Of jumping fence and riding rails Standing at the edge of the world Gazing into the golden corn of sea My greatness My greatness is lost It’s gone from my sight I am but a man In a world gone up in flames See man made the fire In all his greatness But fire ran wild It burned down houses Fields Villages Countries My greatness My virtue I am but a man
