My Life Now Frozen (As Up I Look and Worries cease) - A Sonnet
I’ve wandered far in life so dark - so chill, My legs are weak – my mind so numb, so cold; The sleet and snow have stopped; the air’s now still - The bitter frost of life has taken hold. My brain confused, perplexed, and crazed I know, I feel depressed, so tired - so blurred my eyes; Now where’s my path, and who’s to guide me now? The rooks I hear above – but raucous their cries! Back I look – my life so strange, so fraught, A life perplexed it’s been, no friends, no fun; The warning cries of rooks have come to naught, But now upon my face I feel the sun! The warmth I feel brings hope and peace; As up I look and feel my worries cease. This poem, in sonnet form, is designed to reflect the feelings of a person, perhaps elderly, perhaps having lost a loved one, near to ‘wits end’. In sonnet-style the first two verses illustrate the person’s confused and numbed feelings, while the third is more reflective, looking back on life, with a portent in the last line of the verse. The last two lines of the poem contain a final comment on what is happening and a possible outcome. The reference to ‘feeling the sun’ in the third verse, and ‘looking up’ in the second line of the final couplet can be construed, perhaps, as a Christian revelation and contact with God. This conclusion could be enhanced by the plea “…who’s to guide me now?” in the third line of the second verse.

Love creativity - especially writing - poems especially. Love my wife, cats, our church, reading, warm weather (so rare here!) and snow - quite common these days - even in spring....
