never leave
If you leave the door a crack open You see the light shining in from the window In the other room Where we hold our memories When you left the door was thrown wide open Wind whistled through the shackles on the roof The dog howled and the chickens clucked I heard nothing But the sound of you walking, you r footsteps fading If you come back one day I don’t think I’ll hear you As I have heard you so many times in my dreams t That I doubt Ill believe its you. I’ll just go back to sleep Think I’m dreaming You’ll be waiting on the doorstep as I peacefully sleep When the season had changed I stretched in the spring sun Watched the flowers grow and felt their beauty without you Read my books and ate my marshmallows I’d forgotten to listen for the sound of the door So of course that’s when you walked right back in If you break me the way you broke me before I’ll lock all the doors and bar the windows and re-nail the shackles on the roof Just to let you know that you can’t come in this time You can’t imprint yourself into me I’ll just lock you out So don’t walk out the door Too late…. You walked out.
