Never Mundane, Always Significant

Some significant sparkle a touch of the thrilling, the dramatic (though without the drama...) These enthrall, hold our interest. But the everyday, the commonplace becomes mundane- stirs no special notice. Still, I think of the writer, Naomi Nye, A Palestinian-American and how her poetry focuses on ordinary objects, buttons the onion- so plain in their simplicity... And humble workers, a man who makes brooms. And I understand that, when asked, of why she doesn't write political poems she replied, "All my poems are political." And I understand too, her explanation of the importance, the utility of even small, overlooked things and the workers continuing on with diligence and dignity performing each task, facing each daily encounter not as routine but- Revolutionary! And so it is with each "Good Morning" even in our waking, feet hitting the floor (whether dirt or plushly carpeted) it is all an act of defiance- (against all that would knock us down...) Showering, or splashing water on our face eating breakfast, attending to that, which needs be done- rearing children going to school or an office, to fields... All are acts vitally precious all pieces of the very greatest tasks of all- laughing and loving laboring- Living.
