Never (Not Ever)

I never took candy from people unknown I’ve never gone in my folk’s basement alone I never held forks near any wall sockets I never stole cash from another man’s pockets I never could say no to pretty brown eyes I never could sleep while my baby girl cries I’ve never hated someone that I’ve never met I’ve never made love that I’d want to forget I’ve never been able to see the far coast Never drank more than an ending year’s toast About God and Heaven, I never have lied I’ve never been certain, since I’ve never died The crush from so long ago, I never dated I’ve never regretted since my pimples faded I never found out if I punted the best I never had time for a team beyond chess I never jumped off of a bridge from a string Or out of a plane like a bird on the wing I never sang out up in front of a crowd That’s not to say I’d never try if allowed I never said sorry, I choked on your tears But I’ll never forget you in ten thousand years I’m broken for never conceding to bend I’ll never write love poems, ever again

Not much to say. I'm a father of four, working to keep my pygmies fat and happy. I have always liked Robert Frost, but a recent book that I'd stumbled across introduced me to John Donne.
