Night Nurse
NIGHT NURSE The new born child lay fast asleep He did not hear his mother weep As dreamless by her side he lay She cried her longest night away If he had seen her floods of tears Or if her sobs had reached his ears He wouldn’t know the reason why He was the one who made her cry In perfect peace he gently snored His mother telling her dear Lord Her faith in him had been defiled When he gave her a mutant child The duty night nurse came along Gently she said ‘What is wrong?’ Why do you cry, are you in pain? The mother said ‘Is it not plain?’ Nurse lifted the boy from his cot ‘Can you tell me that this is not The sweetest child you ever saw?’ The mother looked at him in awe A matron then her tale did hear She says ‘This is all very queer ‘Night nurse rang in sick for duty Wow, your son is quite a beauty’
