North's Despair - from the Immortal Series
From The Immortals Series, this scene takes place after the battle between Immortal Youths and their Mortal counterparts. *** 1 He stands upon the battle field where fallen soldiers lie The wrenching loss of friends and foes he cannot justify Although his sword was never raised, nor fatally did smite His noble shoulders bear responsibility tonight Young brethren chose this star-cursed ground to seal the fate of those Whose legion misconceptions were their downfall, Heaven knows How could a mortal man discard with ease such brief life-span Without some concrete evidence of Maker or His plan? Yet here they lie, with lives unlived, their blind faith blown away While North remains in torment here forever and a day. Head bowed, this giant Lord of all Immortals sheds a tear For every man and every dream now dead and rotting here. 2 And now the universe must wait while Melody sleeps on To reaffirm the prophesies by oracles since gone Of one pure soul untainted by those well-intentioned men Who gave their lives too willingly so she might come again And, by her rebirth, shine the light for all eternity Creator’s plan encompasses more than the eye can see ***
