Nothing very Much ever Happens in Cherry Burton
Earthquake shatters deep-sleepers of Cherry Burton. Grimsby Epicentre slides into North Sea The setting sun now out of sight, And evening star shining bright, Speak peace and calm with all at rest, In Cherry’s quiet and fading light. Ten to eleven, no longer stressed, In bed, asleep, all worries supressed The retired - the hour so late; The sun has set - a village so blessed. A shock - I feel the bed vibrate, Up I sit and fear my fate; Our house no longer calm and still, Lights switched on, oh so late! I heard the cat meow so shrill; Across the road and up the hill - Alarms go off and cocoas spill. An apocalypse now fulfil? ******** Many sleepers woke and sat up in great fright - (actually, one or two turned over and went back to sleep ....) Worried villagers rushed out in their dozens – such a sight! (actually, one looked out a window ….) Dogs were heard to howl right across Etton Wold - (actually, a dog barked at a cat crossing the garden ….) Neighbours rushed out in fear – nothing on – so cold - (actually, one went to the back door to see what the dog was barking at ….) The church bells reported to have rung out a warning just before - (actually, it was the 11.0 p.m. chimes). Books reported to have fallen off shelves and much more - (actually, one book fell off the end of a bed) Even cats cried out in distress all around - (actually, one quietly miaowed...). Grimsby rotates and comes crashing downnnn - (actually, late-night revellers come tumbling out of a pub near the town centre) (Actually, nothing very much ever happens in Cherry B..........) This poem was written following the minor earthquake felt a little after 11.00 p.m. on June 9th. The force 3.9 Earthquake woke up a few sleepy residents, but no damage was reported – as expected in such a mild occurrence. The earthquake epicentre was close to Grimsby in North Lincolnshire. (Actually, as far as we know, no late night revellers tumbled out of a pub in Grimsby worried about earthquakes….)

Love creativity - especially writing - poems especially. Love my wife, cats, our church, reading, warm weather (so rare here!) and snow - quite common these days - even in spring....
