Oh time I do long Through 50ft of springs 20 years ago I sprouted Dreams of thrice as many rings Now youth my skin be reddish brown becoming darker as I age Fissured, cracked, and sloughing As time does turn my page. By then I be one hundred feet With buttress firm and proud That day Ill play the fluted song Amidst a silent forest crowd Till then I stand straight In predetermined way Through Spring and snow I'll spread my toes Old friend again one day. -This is the story of a tree I met and came to know and a morning exercise in writing while at work. -I wrote a longer version but I am not sure about its flow, in my eyes, this shortened simplified version read better.
