O Stranger
O Stranger Which way do you go, O Stranger Which way do you go Wait, when did you Come out of my mind Where I had kept your silhouette An enigma for all Before you walk through my pleas Over the lake, like Jesus And shrink to a brown dot Behind the farthest chestnut Planted along the horizon Before you ignore my wails And left-right over the lake Reaching the corner, and turn Where you can't no longer Feel my silent grief Before the turbulence From your steps on the water dies out And I can no longer see The dancing, leafless tree in the lake And all that I am left with Is the reflection of its root-like branches Dead and dull Knowing well enough The soft breeze kissing the lake Will not be able to make them dance again, ever Before the love fades away Will you please tell me What did your face look like Did you have a mole on your left cheek Or did you have a cleft chin A broken thumb Or a false nose? Did you ever look at the mirror And cringe: Who is this guy? Did you ever fear If the mirror started lying You will never, ever know How you looked to the girl At the wharf last Sunday And why she never smiled back at you When was the last time you cried laughing (I assume you know what is laughing) And when was the last time You got a pat at the back, and smiled When was the last time You had fallen in love With some whom you never met And basked in the epiphany Ah! That's why it's called the fall in love Or atleast tell me Before I start talking to the mirror again And you disappear to the trees Floating on the lake Which way to go, O Stranger Which way to go."
