Ode to Three Lovers
This life I’ve had, it has been blessed, Three times I’ve been in love, From each their love I would attest, Came strait from God above, But all three times the story ends, I’m left here all alone, With feelings that can’t make amends, And thoughts I must atone, The first I loved so long ago, But just a kid was I, I held her on a high plateau, Oblivious to her cry, She tried to hide the cuts from me, And a cause, I’d not insist, But continue to ignore her plea, …Until she slit her wrist, The second came a decade later, A few months after college, I felt my heart turn traitor, To a love I can’t acknowledge, But then my heart would come to see, The crash scene she survived, But the burns were of the third degree, …And four months past she died, The third is still alive today, But to her… I am dead, My heart still feels a path astray, And clouds the things I’ve said, Fidelity I’ll give to her, But she wants still something more, I’ll lose her by my heart’s defer, …To the ones I’ve loved before.
