29-12-2003 “Old Man Of The Sea” This is for my father --------------------- today the waves have settled old man of the sea the morning sun shines golden orange on the surface golden glitter leaping gently to the shore today i will watch you walk along the rocks no more strain in your step, no more gasp in your breath no longer a shadow in the dawn, ghost in the sea spray no longer the unknown that i should have known more today the light illuminates your face and we will all see, through our tears that the lonely figure standing at the oceans edge is actually smiling, smiling at the coming of the sun and the slow moving power beneath it like a picture at the bottom of your old fishing bag stained green cloth over rusted metal frame you simply had to reach in and take it out you cast your rod into the quiet, into the deep blue green peace reel in some calm, some quiet some life that flutters and jumps about on the rocks a smile on your face as you pounce around trying to grab it and just sometimes, you will catch a fish or two
