On Love's Elation
Oh morning light, I humbly ask to view Before an aberration seeks to skew, That summer breeze which set my heart aflame, And carried whispers of her face and name; Should dawn relay this messenger, unbound To habits of unfruitful laws And words that bring a lover pause, Then all will know about the joy I’ve found. I’ve come to know her touch against my fears As dancing traced across my yesteryears, As midnight warmth perspired on my face, And mysteries that make our passions race; For I have held her reasons with my own To ask of God that He would bless A sunrise with her sweet caress And share the mornings we would wake alone. If romance spoke through poems and simple words, Could it woo her in ways her heart deserves? In time I’ll give her complements of hair, Of auburn eyes, and copper skin laid bare; And blow a kiss to anchor dreams which stand Against the howling pains of loss, The futile thinking of Pangloss, To offer glimpses of us hand in hand. For in our minds disorder has its way, Its jilted feelings begging to betray An angel’s worship of his soverign Lord And war against him with a flaming sword; She knows as I, the wilds give no rest, Nor reconcile what dies within When desperate worth gives way to sin And gives attention only at our best. But should we choose to greet adversity Declaring, I for her and her for me, Exposed to secrets spilt by bitter wine And reveries that cause our hearts to pine; We’ll find that love extends beyond a deed Encompassing the morning’s dew To transcend moments old and new. For finding love has been our greatest need.
