One Time Again
One time again to watch a star undress And burn beyond a charcoal sky. One time To watch the last leaf fall in arched distress: Back breaking and wind willing it to climb To reattach and never sink again. One time again to trace the petals red Of the loneliest rose amid the weeds And pick the bud out from its thorny bed To glimpse the bloom recoil and slowly bleed. Just one more time to sense the falling rain Hit my skin: seep and sit, run, sprint and slump As if to join around my limbs would raise Me up to heavenly heights if I would jump. One more to feel the dawn’s first blazing rays If I could have, for every time besides These seconds here, Him with me by my side.
