Our Pictures

Flicking through the worn out albums Hectic lifestyles put on hold for a glimpse into our past We stare at the smiling faces That look back at us from our photographs Some are difficult to look at The lies some represent The presence of a camera And the smiles that were only lent Occasionally stumbling on the pictures That are destined to make us feel sad The reminder of a person we have lost A place we may have forgot Emotions that rush to the surface As the photograph performs its service Looking at ourselves in photos Is a task not many enjoy To banish these to the darkness of their envelopes Is a tradition thati like to employ A grin is always present when children's faces on photos appear Along with beaming smiles and funny poses They age in years with each turn of the page Their innocent faces and the pleasant times These precious prints we flick through Bringing us sadness and pleasure combined
