Our Unique Selves
This is brand new and it's rare for me to post something I have not had hanging around for weeks or months as I am an inveterate reviser of my work. Have at it with the crits -- I think it will probably need tons...:) Our Unique Selves Measure me not by the neatness of my hand, nor by the deft turn of my ankle. Weigh me not on the scales of your eyes or even on the compass of your expectation, for I am unique, no more or less than you but of equal integrity by birth. We may walk different paths, which will never conjoin, but unless you place your foot in my prints, do not assume it would fit any better than mine does upon the same. We are strangers, from birth to death, you and I, even if we wear the same clothes on occasion. You recognise in me parts of yourself perhaps but even then, you will interpret them differently for we are not one, nor ever could we be, were we to entertain that magical contortion act called love. I am me, you are you and we are as unalike as two snowflakes that crawl down the same pane of glass in tandem. So do not presume to have walked in my shoes, nor ached my aches, nor cried my tears. You cannot, and would not, were choice a factor here. But if you decided to attempt the feat, how could I do less than feel contempt? For, of all things, we ought to at least embrace the singularity of our selves. After all, our selves are going to be with us for the rest of our lives.
