Overshadowed

I know I'm smart And I know I'm unique Therefore at the bottom Is not where I deserve to be Just give me some time And some credibility Because more and more everyday I am learning to writein versatility Sometimes I feel victorious And sometimes I feel overshadowed by other poets Because they have such a vast vocabulary That in comparison I feel incredibly small Maybe because I don't delve deep enough But that shouldn't be the reason at all At certain times I'll just sit and think About why those kinds of words Never come out of me It's really nothing to worry about But why am I worried? I have to find a way To keep these emotions buried However I know that over the course of time More powerful words will begin to surface And so I say to my fans don't worry There is no need to get nervous For my skills sharpen More and more each day And they affect millions of other poets In many unimaginable ways Known to mankind I must say Though sometimes when I read Amazingly worded poetry I continue to feel overshadowed And the feelings of fear and insecurity take over me But this is something That I can overcome For this incredibly long journey Has only just begun And this unique talent that God has given me Makes me feel like the chosen one A wise friend once told me that no matter what happens Just keep moving forward Because with hard work Soon comes reward I continue to tell myself Time and time again Glenn you can do this You are in it to win So the next time That I start to feel taken aback I'll just remember that my writing sustains me And that my heart is where it's at By Glenn McCrary © 2009 Glenn McCrary (All rights reserved)
