There were signs on the door that read no Mexicans allowed Even signs on the water fountain for the colored people The restaurants were out of limit for the other kind No eating in the dining area, you must go to the kitchen. Segregation, discrimination, hatred in 1950's or in the 1960's This was all a real thing that was going on in our country I remember swimming pools were off limits for the greasers Parents were afraid that our color and cooties were contagious We were never allowed white friends because we were different But we were young and could not understand all the dynamics We just wanted to love people for who and what they were If they would love us, we would love them back, no limitations. Our country had taken major steps to make changes since the 1970's Children walking hand in hand without looking at each others skin All eating in the same restaurants without hateful looks and gestures People attending church and school functions without fear of retribution And people sitting in their porch visiting with the "neighbor" who is different. We would never want our country to regress to a time of fear, hate and segregation. We must always live in peace, love, harmony and remain firm in our faith.
