Peek-a-boo
The struggle within: You came uninvited, unannounced Invaded, besieged, corrupted my serenity Disturbed my ritual of calming herbal tea Shanghaied, cancelled session of tai chi Twisted my tranquil inner thoughts Waves upon waves of rage wash over me like the sickening tide Cursed clowns on tightrope wire Toying with my soul on hell’s fire Tempered steel hooves knocking on doors of reason, no place to hide Trembling fear of sanity disintegrating Now trapped in pits of fiery hell Heartbeat feverishly pulsating, racing Stiffened muscles prepare for the inevitable, limbs pacing Images unwind, unkind, spawned in mind’s eye by weakness of heart Voices of reason: Count to ten, calm your senses, Pass the chains and iron fences Breath, think of the wife & kids Consider the consequences Savage impulses now weakened Calmness of being for too long incarcerated My coma induced senses emancipated Specs of light now invade my once blinded vision to reveal the light from within Light and dark now unwilling to occupy the same wretched space Truth be told, it’s just different sides on the same human face Till the next wave comes along…
