Pink Pillows

She leaves pink lipstick stains on his collar guilt eating at her stained lips leave lingering evidence not enough tissue paper to wipe away the shame she's left standing in the mirror dazed with water running down the drain she can't help but worry for the other woman's pain not so simple to have JUST stolen a kiss tarnished a love held responsible for trails of broken hearts left wrapped in deceptions cloaked in darkness while doing the devils business she only sees a broken shell a little girl tainted at an early age she's the smudge on your mirrors the blood that trickles down our legs at 12 she's what's left over when daddy hit mommy ONE too many times when uncle J left his hand on her waist too long blowing hot...liquored..breath..so..closely...in..her..face She's the girl who was scared to tell the truth threatened in her bedroom corner surrounded by pink walls sitting atop pink carpeted floors wrapped in pink fluffy blankets crying into pink pillows mommy hand made for her she holds on to the little memories she has the bit of joy the drops of peace she tried to savor Alone she stands in the mirror wiping away tears no smudges here no! we hide now beneath our masks ....and she glides on that pink lipstick neck straight head high and regal with all the confidence of a Queen ...who still crys into her pink pillows every night.
