Poem for my sailor

Not my most sophisticated of poems, and if you don't like rhyming I would stay away! My, but if I loved you How tricky life would be How difficult the travel How faint the course to see My, but if I loved you This storm would cause me pain I’d gaze lonely through the window And send prayers within the rain My, but if I loved you How could I pretend? That I do not feel the danger That my hopes I do not send My, but if loved you How these grey skies would mock As I pace along the jetty And I wait beside the dock My, but if I loved you How hard this news would be That you’re never coming home now And your face I’ll never see My, but if I loved you I’d confess it to your grave As the deep reclaims your soul now And your ash becomes the wave
