poison
There is a poison in the world This poison is the deadliest of any It cuts deeper than any blade or arrow It’s also more addictive than the air itself More intoxicating than all the wine in the world It makes the sane seem crazed, and the crazed seem sane We are born with the want, no the need of this poison But it does not kill the body Oh no, it is a much crueler mistress than that This poison prefers to kill man’s mind and spirit Leaving him to wonder the earth Not of the living, to enjoys the sweet nectar of life Nor of the dead, to feel the release of eternal rest No, he is to scour the earth, looking for just a taste, of what made him this way It makes life worth living, and makes life worth leaving It makes the rich feel poor, and the poor feel rich It’s beyond rational, but before emotion It can make one light as air, or as heavy as stone It makes the weak stand and fight, and the strong kneel in defeat This poison is mankind’s salvation, their greatest feat, and their greatest weakness But don’t look at me as the wise man lighting the path But, see the fool who stumbled though it. What is this poison you ask I thought you would know This deadliest of poisons is know by many names But it’s known mostly as love.
