pretend not to know
It's tempting tantalizing to sit so near to you your movements are unconscious, you don't know what you do to me as your presence infiltrates like a stranger into my chipped, porcelain arms cradling broken truth. I'm answering to names that aren't my own, desperate for anyone who is not alone, whispering unwelcome words to the cold dial tone. I think I'm starting to change, please pretend not to know. You're shrouded, so clouded by your private dismay, spinning transparent thought webs of the pensive cliche, while I'm the small helpless creature that got caught in your way Now I cling to fear-entwined theads, I suppose I will stay. I'm answering to names that aren't my own, desperate for anyone who is not alone, whispering unwelcome words to the cold dial tone. I think I'm starting to change, please pretend not to know. The transition is strange, but hopefully it won't show under the caustic resentment of interrupted flow.
