PROMISES NOT KEPT
PROMISES NOT KEPT Words erupt with deadly force on predestined collision with planet Earth. Nothing you can do Nothing you can say Can throw them off course Can make them go away You can’t take back What’s already been done Like a corpse left to rot In the noon-day sun And It washes over us with it’s deadly curse as it rolls off our tongues in melodic verse When the smoke clears We know…………… they’ll be nothing left. Just the memories of something called happiness. We’re in mourning now For maybe what could have been if only given refuge from the raging storm butthe days theyslip into days gone past with vague recollections of promises not kept and you can’t undo What’s already been done And you can’t hear the music once the screen door slams And the bones They lay bleached In the noon day sun. Bleached and bare For what could have been. WordPlaya, October 10, 2009
