Rare avis

For Sina Ogulana Do you remember the day? Yes that day when dark boys invaded the sacred tower, It was the day you were slated for the mantle of leadership. That was the day my big mouth opened without control And uttered foolishness in drowning volumes That day you took your stand for what you believed, ‘ This lad has a case to answer!’ That day was for me a hard day, ‘Who is this man, committed to ruin?’ I lamented with a curse in my trouble mind. But as that day turned out to be, It was our wedding day, You became my brother spirit, soul and struggle, A big brother for that matter, Together we struggled, Together we won, You became a confidant, A faithful compatriot in our battle against darkness, In our dealings you are always married to principles Your care is luring And your words magnetic and inspiring The truth is your motivator, An informed conscience is your weapon of war An unalloyed commitment to your generation is you defence. Big brother, you are a rare avis, You an invaluable example, A priceless role model. To God and His holy angels I commend, And to history and posterity, I recommend you.
