Reminiscing on Sidewalks
I looked out my window tonight As the streetlight flashed on. The sun bleeds beneath the earth As blackness drips in from the sky. An uneven sidewalk is under the spotlight, What used to invite my adolescence To sit and talk for hours. Happy to be alive, Breathing air blessed with naivety And eyes that could never be tired. Those nights will only ever exist in memories now, Those days are dead. Beautifully imperfect people we were, Never dreaming of tomorrow, Only alive For each day And each night. A decade from now I will look at my table Where I write this Under similar sad nostalgic lights And think the same thoughts. Always too old, And craving my youth.
