Room 708 (part 1)
(This began as a poem and turned into a short story, so I will submit the piece in 3 parts) The snow had begun to fall just a bit. More like a flurry really as the Wilhelms climbed from the warmth of the hotel shuttle and scurried inside. It was early December and they were traveling from upstate New York on the first leg of their holiday visits. The parties had not begun as yet, so the Virginia hotel was quiet this night; a mere 18% occupancy. Mr Wilhelm had done very well in his real estate investments and it had become a tradition that December was family travel time, stopping along the way to visit relatives that were spread throughout the country. Mrs Wilhelm was more than happy to be the dutiful, stay home Mom and take care of their beautiful child; 11 year-old Rachel. And Rachel was indeed a beautiful little girl with skin of porcelain and long, glowing jet black hair. Being the only child of well-to-do, doting parents, one might suspect that Rachel would be a tad spoiled, and one would be correct. However, Rachel was at heart a very caring and good-natured child, and upon meeting her, most would admit that she deserved the attention. The family approached the front desk at 10:44 pm and Rachel could not resist the large burgundy chair with leather trim that looked so inviting and stood at the edge of the lobby and great room. Rachel imagined herself a Queen on a throne and giggled out loud.
