Room 708 (part 3)
Mrs Wilhelm checked the restroom just to the other side of the Great Room entrance, but Rachel was not there. Mr Wilhelm advised the Front Desk Clerk to call Security to assist them. Security arrived...and eventually the Police arrived and every guest room and every closet and every inch of the hotel was searched. The snow fell harder throughout the night. Rachel could not be found. At 7:00 am, a steward was sweeping snow from the back terrace that ran the length of the hotel. He was about to give up and return to the comfort of the warmth inside as the wind howled and blew the snow right back where it was. Just then, through the specks of flakes dancing about his face, he noticed something protruding from one of the row of neatly trimmed bushes that lined the walls and pillars. It was an upside-down, small black patent leather shoe with an inch of snow covering the sole. As he came close, he could see the white leg stocking disappear into the bush. He believed it to be a doll, perhaps a Christmas doll used for decoration that had somehow found its way here.Inside the hotel, a housekeeper beginning her morning rounds, was surprised to find the balcony door in one of the guest rooms unlocked and open, especially since the room was unoccupied the previous night. She would report this to the front desk. She wrote on a notepad; 'Room 708 - balcony door open.' Just as she exited the room, the front desk got a call. It was from room 708, but no-one was on the line.
