Sacrifice
I found the box today. Your box Wiped away a tear, wiped away the dust and slowly opened it up. I found the letterswe exchanged for the time you were away Tear stains cover each page a few more stains were added today. Caressing the page as if it was your face, I read each word So many times I've read them, I know them allby heart. "I can't wait tocome hometo see you. Everytime I get the chance I pull out that picture of us, Imagine you're in my arms again. It all thatgets me through the nights" "Me too baby, me too" I whisper reaching for the old picture Silence surrounds me and it's more than I can take The picturefalls from my hand as I stumble to my feet Silence broken by ascreetch "Why'd you leave me?? I still need you!" My knees hit the floor the same time as a tear I grab the picture and whisper "Baby I still need you. Why'd you leave me baby? Why?" Hugging your uniform as if you were still in it Shuffling through pictures as each one comes to life Feeling your arms around me Hearing your voice Reality slips away, it's as if you were alive. I flipped through the last picture. I read to the last word. It's still not enough, I still need you. Blinded by tears, I fumble until I find the razor I used to open this old box With it I will return to my love. "You gave your life for your country, I'll give my life to be with you"
